Valtrex

ValtrexValtrex is an antiviral drug which is used in the treatment of herpes zoster (shingles), genital herpes and herpes simplex (cold sores). It may also be used to treat other conditions.

How to take valtrex :

Take the Valtrex by mouth and follow the directions for using this medicine that are provided by your doctor. Take each dose with a glass of water. Don’t miss any dose. Take all of the Valtrex that has been prescribed for you even if you begin to feel better.

Side effects of Valtrex :

Side effects of Valtrex include nausea, vomiting, headache, loss of appetite, weakness, stomach pain or dizziness. These side effects may go away during the treatment, If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. Contact your doctor if you notice a side effects that is not listed above.

Precautions:

Tell your doctor if you have any kidney disease, blood disorders or if you have any allergies. Clearly discuss the risks and benefits of using Valtrex during pregnancy with your doctor. It is not known if this medication passes into breast milk and how it may affect a nursing baby. Consult with your doctor before breast-feeding. Avoid letting infected areas come into contact with other people because herpes infections are contagious and may spread to other people . Use a condom to prevent spreading the virus to others during sexual intercourse. Wash your hands frequently to prevent transmission. Treatment with Valtrex should be started as soon as possible after the appearance of first symptoms (pain, burning, blisters) of an infection.

Drug interactions:

Other drugs including over-the-counter drugs, prescription drugs and herbal products may interact with Valtrex and can cause unwanted side effects or prevent a medicine from doing its job. Inform your doctor if you are taking any such medication.

Missed dosage:

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next regularly scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one as directed. Do not take a double dose of Valtrex.

Overdose:

Seek the emergency medical attention immediately if an overdose is suspected.

Storage:

Store Valtrex at room temperature, between 59 and 77 degrees F (15 to 25 degrees C) away from heat, light and moisture. Keep Valtrex and all other medications away from the reach of children.
